Trinity Care Home Sherbourne residents enjoy fitness classes

RESIDENTS at a Somerset care home are benefitting from expert fitness advice during new weekly sessions.

The Trinity Manor care home in Sherborne recently welcomed Craig Hardaker into the home, bringing with him a wealth of fitness expertise, which the residents there are now greatly benefitting from.

Craig’s motivation to promote exercise with the elderly came from a very personal journey with his own grandmother.

In her later years, he worked closely with her to enable her to be fitter for longer, in order to promote wellbeing and strengthen her body, which enabled her to keep her mobility and independence for as long as possible.

Trinity Manor is now delighted to have Craig come and provide weekly sessions in the home, knowing that the benefits of improving their physical health will also have positive effects on their mental health also.

In view of the recent pandemic, mental health has been much highlighted by the press and has become so important for us all to acknowledge.

General manager, Sohail Daniel, said: “We are so excited to welcome Craig regularly here at Trinity Manor.

“Craig has built up such a fantastic local following with his classes for all age groups in our local area, and to have him come to the home and enable our residents to improve their independence through his exercise regime is just fantastic and we cannot wait to see the benefits within our home.

“Quality of life is so important for our residents and this is something that we whole heartedly promote, especially thanks to Craig’s Communifit classes.”

Craig said: “My first class here at Trinity Manor was fantastic and we had such a great turn-out of residents and staff – it was great to see Sohail joining in too!

“We have had a really fun session and have also laughed a lot, which in itself is great for everyone’s mental wellbeing.

“Physically, I look forward to watching as everyone becomes fitter and more active; which is something I definitely love to see. I am so glad to now count myself as a wider part of the Trinity Manor family.”

Trinity Manor is hoping that once restrictions ease further, these classes will open their doors to local community members for them to join the residents in exercise, allowing friendship, fellowship and a community spirit to build as a result.
