The Gogglebox star turned TV presenter famously lost three stone a few years ago and claimed it was down to doing her own fitness DVD – however, it transpired all was not as it seemed
Scarlett Moffatt has opened up about the fitness DVD scandal that dominated the headlines in 2018.
Back then the TV presenter and former Gogglebox favourite lost an astonishing three stone, dropping from a size 18 to a size 8.
She claimed the extraordinary weight loss was due to following the fitness routines on her DVD and sticking to a 700 calorie-a-day diet.
However, the truth was somewhat different.
I’m A Celeb winner Scarlett, it turned out, was only consuming a paltry 300 calories a day and had been sent to a gruelling boot camp in order to accelerate her weight loss.
The 30-year-old Geordie said that she never discusses that period normally but told the BoobShare podcast: “Something I don’t talk about ever is an ad on a fitness DVD, which I always say is like, my biggest regret.”
Scarlett explained that at the time she was very young and new to the celeb game and had no representation – so was navigating it on her own.
She added: “And it’s really upsetting because that’s just such a small part of my life and a mistake that I made. But I seem to still be getting sh*t for it.
“What people need to understand is, I was so young, like I was in my early 20s. I was working in an office, I was very new to this [celebrity]industry.
“I had no representation, and it seemed like a good thing at the time. And I feel like I’m always penalised for that.”
The Queen of the Jungle also said that she had “even apologised about doing the before-and-after pictures because now I realise how detrimental AR [augmented reality]is to people’s mental health”.
Scarlett recalled that period as “the most miserable time” and even deliberately started putting weight back on so no one could criticise her.
She said she thought: “If I get big again, it can’t get brought up.”
Scarlett added: “I can’t have this stigma attached to me about this DVD, and people will stop buying it.”
She also revealed she contacted Samaritans for help because she was ashamed of how she felt at what should have been one of the best times of her life after. Brinkwire presents summary news.
