CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — On The Move Fitness had its grand opening and ribbon cutting this weekend. Owner and lead trainer Mike Verschelden welcomed guests to his gym, located at 217 Guideboard Road, with the ribbon cutting on Friday and the grand opening celebration on Saturday.
On The Move Fitness specializes in small group workouts and one-on-one fitness training, though larger team training options, which Verschelden calls “Move Camps,” are also available. The gym is membership-based, with a variety of package options. At Saturday’s grand opening, Verschelden offered three of his Move Camps in half-hour sessions, to give potential customers a preview of what On The Move’s fitness program looks like. The Camps also served as a fundraising opportunity. All proceeds from all three Camps are being donated to CAPTAIN Community Human Services, a charity organization that helps homeless youth.
Verschelden hopes to host charity Move Camps every month. He prioritizes giving back to the community and helping others, especially children. He hopes that the services he offers at On The Move Fitness will help people to improve their lives holistically, with better fitness leading to a better mindset and better overall health.
“This has been a dream of mine for a while,” Verschelden said at the ribbon-cutting. “We really want to make an impact on the community with health, fitness, and being a better human being.”
Verschelden gave heartfelt thanks to his family and friends who had supported him from the beginning and helped make his dream possible. His parents, who were both present, said they were very proud of him. He received congratulatory citations from Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh and a representative for Senator Daphne Jordan, and pledges of support from representatives of the Saratoga County Chamber.
“I’ve seen a lot of change in people from training,” he remarked. “I’ve done it myself. I know it can change your life.”
Saratoga County Chamber vice president of benefits and programs Liz Roggenbuck was very happy to see On The Move Fitness added to the roster of new businesses that have opened this year.
“Our ribbon cuttings have been so busy,” Roggenbuck commented. “It’s so good to see that COVID hasn’t stopped people from opening new businesses and following their dreams.”
